It's hard to believe that a year ago Magic Happens premiered at Disneyland. It's unfortunate that it only ran for 16 days before the parks closed. I am grateful that I not only got to see it Opening Weekend and I got to see it another 2 times including once At Night!
It breaks my heart that Magic Happens did not get to be in the spotlight or long before the world shut down. If you haven't seen the parade, I highly recommend checking out the links above. I was able to record the parade a few times for which I am grateful so I can look back on the memories.
Not only was the parade visually stunning, but the music was catchy, the choreography and costumes were brilliant...let's delve into all this a little further.
Here are some of the biggest reasons why the Magic Happens parade at Disneyland is my favorite parade!
Music: Not only is the tune catchy, but what I appreciate most is the song isn't repeated over and over again. (A big pet peeve of mine for other parades.) You hear it at the beginning and the end and it's perfect. We can't talk about the music without crediting Todrick Hall.
Choreography: The choreography for the parade is modern and hip. (I know I sound old...I swear I am not too old.) I watched the parade 3 times and was still captivated by the choreography, which I can't talk about without mentioning the performing cast members. They performed from their hearts and you could see it. I also loved that there were performers with flags and poi which is unique.
Costumes: The costumes are breathtaking. So much time and effort and love were put into them. My favorites are Aurora's dress which is a duochrome fabric that is pink and blue. It's brilliant. I also like to bring up that the white dress of the first set of dancers has the lyrics of "Magic Happens" printed on the dress.
Diversity: The diversity of movies represented in the parade is very diverse. We have old films like Sleeping Beauty (including the fairies!) and The Sword in the Stone and new properties like The Princess and the Frog, Moana, Frozen, and Coco.
At Night the parade transforms at night giving you even more magic. With the lights out, parts of the floats glow and you see things you don't see during the day.
I can't wait for the day that we can enjoy Magic Happens in Disneyland again.
