One year ago today, Galaxy's Edge opened at Disneyland! It originally opened via reservation only. At first the only way to get in was through a hotel reservation, but they did open up reservations to the public but they sold out very fast.
I am grateful that I had a friend of a friend who had a hotel reservation and I was able to join in on the fun! While I wish I could change a couple things about the weekend, it was still an amazing experience.
One of those regrets was waiting overnight for the opening day merchandise. While the experience of waiting was fun, it lacked organization and lead to almost 12 hours of waiting for merchandise that was available elsewhere in the parks. However, I don't want to dwell on that, but instead focus on the positives of the experience!
Our reservation was for June 1, so one day after the official opening. It was craziness. Our reservation was for first thing in the morning and I was very grateful for that. You can see the crowds in the first couple photos of the gallery below. In the 3rd photo is where we were 'corralled' for the opening.
The first thing I did when I got in was head straight for Oga's Cantina as I heard it was hard to get into. I was lucky to get into the line before they cut it off and it took over an hour. Thankfully my companions came by at one point and I was able to switch with them to ride the single rider of Smuggler's Run. While the line was around an hour, the single rider was a walk-on.
Oga's Cantina was incredible and I couldn't resist the Yub Nub drink and souvenir glass. It was incredible to be able to be immersed in the land, even though it was only for 3 hours. Though it was long enough to nearly forget where I was.
The first time I left Galaxy's Edge, I almost forgot I was in Disneyland. It was disorienting walking back into Critter Country after our time was up. Again, I am so grateful for the opportunity to be there opening weekend for such a momentous occasion.
