Today Health Officials from the state of California released their guidelines for theme parks and sports to reopen. Unfortunately, it's not good news for Disneyland and other major theme parks reopening.
The main takeaways from the press conference were that for theme parks and amusement parks with a capacity of over 15,000 people, they cannot open until their county is in the Yellow Tier.
f you aren't familiar with our system in the state of California, we have a 4-tier system for our counties. The colors are purple, red, orange, and yellow. Purple is the worst where the risk is highest for the spread of Covid. Yellow is the best and there's a minimal spread. In order to get to Yellow, there has to be less than 1 daily positive case per 100,000 people. Also, to move from one tier to another, you have to be in the tier for two weeks and meet the requirements of the next tier. The parks are limited to 25% of capacity.
Parks with a capacity of less than 15,000, they can open in the Orange tier. However, there are more strict regulations. Indoor rides cannot be running, and other restrictions as well.
What does that mean for Disneyland?
Well, it's unlikely the parks will be opening this year. Orange County is currently in the Red and the Orange tier seems so far away. Even in the best circumstances, if we go straight to the Yellow Tier that's still 4-6 weeks away. However, it's more likely to be at least a couple months.
Unfortunately unless the regulations are reevaluated, it's highly unlikely that Disneyland will be reopening this year. We will just have to wait and see.
