Yesterday, we were made aware of some disheartening news. Cast members of Mickey and the Magical Map and Frozen at the Hyperion Theater announced that they had been let go and the shows have been cancelled. My heart aches for everyone who was a part of these magical shows.
I have been fortunate enough to watch both shows multiple times. They brought me a lot of joy and I know they did to thousands of others. I am having difficulties writing about these shows in the past tense.
For Mickey and the Magical Map, it was such a great story and incorporated great music. My favorite part was seeing Pocahontas, Mulan, Rapunzel, and Flynn all perform together.
For Frozen Live at the Hyperion, it was a beautiful performance of Frozen. What I loved most was seeing actors of different races playing titular characters. This was the first time I ever saw actors of mixed races playing the same characters. I can only imagine the impact this has had on young children.
Disney has made no public statement on the matter so we don't know if anything will replace these shows. I know for sure we will see these stages empty for months after Disneyland reopens. I just hope that whatever shows will eventually replace these will be bigger and better.
